First we took a trip to Kingscote to deliver some rubber pads and pandrol clips to the extension site that which been delivered to West Hoathly during the week. After this went back to Black Hut, where we spent the day attending to the track joints in the area, as well as the drains and culverts.
Being a hot and sunny day it was also very good for
photography....
The Wickham had gained new air horns during the week, as there
had been comments levelled that the previous horn wasn't very
effective; unfortunately this setup is not exactly in keeping
with your average Wickham, so will have to give way to something
more suitable at the nearest opportunity.....
Before we could do some evening work changing some sleepers at
the crossing, we had to wait for all the locos to leave Horsted
Keynes for Sheffield Park. The combination of two standard
service trains, a Terrier special service and the Footplate Days and Ways course left rather a lot of
traffic waiting to go South, and combined with a shunting problem
at Sheffield Park, the staff for the section could not be
released for quite some time. The one good thing was that I was
given the opportunity to drive the Wickham, under instruction
from the regular drivers, and I didn't manage to stall it once,
which was unexpected to say the least....!
