Tunnel evening 2 (tunnel evening 1 cancelled due to lack of Wickham)
I arrived at Horsted around 4.30pm to find that as usual Jon had got everything pretty much sorted, and it was a case of waiting for eveyone to turn up, and all the locos to leave so that we could take posession of the tunnel. Typically, as last year, two weeks of blazing hot sunshine gave way to dull, rainy conditions, and at one point during the evening we had a nice thunderstorm for half an hour or so, making the tunnel the driest place to be! And this is probably the wettest tunnel in preservation, with no less than five springs above it. A blocked culvert outside the tunnel had been reported by the loco crew, so this was cleared out first, and today's nature pic is a frog that came out of it....
As usual, the tunnel crew was made up of the stalwarts of the
Sunday pway gang, plus several of the usual suspects who turn up
and help
Rogue's gallery....
