Firstly a trip to the extension so that Jon could take some more pictures for the interactive map on the Bluebell's website. After an extended tea-break/early lunch, we proceeded down to Monteswood Lane, as there was a large ballast shoulder a little south of the road bridge, and also some jacking and packing to be done. As is typical, the weather was rather inclement to say the least, and we were rather glad that the job didn't take as long as we had feared, and were able to return to Horsted in good time, where tea, cake and an early bath were the order of the day!
The surrogate Wickham (aka Mark's van) was proudly showing off
it's new horn, which at around 40lbs and running the order of
100+ psi isn't exactly going to be missed. Apparently it is to
the spec of the American SD40 series diesel locos, and that spec
requires it to be heard inside a car with the windows shut at a
range of in excess of a quarter of a mile! Power is provided by
a petrol powered compressor installed in the back of the
van.....
