A very cold morning at Horsted Keynes. When we eventually got the Wickham started, traction was at a premium. As we crawled out of the station it became apparent that we may not even make it to Kingscote, and in fact we had to give it a push across Fireslip, and at several other places due to chronic slipping! An amusing side effect of the ice was that the attempt to coast from Ingwerson's curve down the grade to Kingscote in failed, as the ice provided enough resistance to stop the trolley around Birchstone bridge. This is where we couldn't stop the trolley when we actually wanted to in the summer due to greasy rails.....!
Is this cold enough for you??
Today's task was to remove another redundant point in the yard, as the mid week people apparently somehow kept hitting it
with the Loadall, with only a small number of people to hand (4), the task seemed quite daunting as most of the sleepers
also needed replacing, but things progressed quite well, and a few more hands appeared at lunchtime.
We made it! The work was just finished before the light went, which was a good thing, as the next day the yard was
due to be shunted to remove the Pullmans....
