Sensible starting time today, and nice hot, sunny weather, with the threat of hordes of rugrats later on.  Due to the intensive service, using the Wickham was out of the question, so we invaded the brake van of the first down train taking the minimum of tools with us to attack a few bad joints on Freshfield Bank

Even at 10am the heat was extreme, especially for beating up the track!

After doing all we could, we walked down to Sheffield Park, and had a look at the pumphouse siding, a job for doing in the near future.  A quick visit to the loco works ensued, and we were greeted with the interesting spectacle below...

The rest of the day was spent at Horsted, sorting out supplies for doing the pumphouse job and several members of the gang got a ride on Blue Circle, masquerading as Fergus for the weekend
