Two points of attack today, the dock siding was suffering from a badly dipped joint, and of course, project Ardingly. While attending the dipped joint in the dock siding, we discovered that it had a slight kink as well, so decided to do a bit of slewing as well, which we regretted....
Normally you can slew track by putting a jack against the rail at an angle, and use a shovel and pile of ballast
as a point to jack against. Unfortunately, with the ground the way it is, the shovel and ballast merely
sank into the formation, and were replaced with a piece of sleeper, which also started to drift..... Here we
are with three pieces of sleeper, and still going nowhere....!
Why not try it in two places at once? Why not...? This is why...
Even with Jon bending over backwards to help, and Mark doing the equivalent effort, if not more,
from a comfy seated position, we merely managed to shift the formation in relation to the track, and
not the other way around!
Eventually, after attempting to jack against all solid objects in the vicinity, we gave it best
and went off to the Ardingly spur....
More Pandrol® clips to put in place....
Is it teatime yet?
